Dougie Backs The Bully Wee

Dougie Donnelly, BBC Sports anchorman and Clyde fan, has given his backing to the Clyde Supporters’ Trust’s contribution to the fans’ consortium that is aiming to pay off the club’s debts and take over the First Division leaders.

Dougie says he will try his best to get along to a Monday (March 15) meeting at Broadwood when the “Back the Bully Wee” fund raising campaign will have its official launch. The trust is committed to raising at least £75,000 to contribute to funding already being gathered by the trust-led consortium.

“I’m more than happy to help out the Trust both financially and morally,” Dougie said. “I’ve been a Clyde fan since I was 9 years old and it is terribly ironic that the club should be finding problems at a time when we are enjoying the most success they have had in the last 35 years.”

Every Clyde supporter is encouraged to come along to the Broadwood Suite for the 7.30pm start, bringing cheque books, donations and just as importantly lots of ideas, belief and enthusiasm. Non-trust members can join the Supporters’ Trust on the night.

“I would be absolutely delighted if Alan Kernaghan and the team can win promotion alongside the Trust securing the future of the club,” Dougie enthused.

“It’s a genuinely exciting prospect to have the Trust in control of the club and I firmly believe this is the way forward for many smaller clubs in Scotland.”

The TV star invited the local business community to join fans in the Supporters’ Trust’s “Back the Bully Wee” campaign.

“I would like to see local businessmen and women with the future of Scottish football at heart, especially ex-Clyde players, getting involved to save this famous old club.”
