Sad Farewell For Millen
Andy Millen will leave Clyde on Monday to start a new role of Assistant Manager with St.Mirren. Alan Kernaghan confirmed the news after today’s victory over Ayr and said:-
“From a professional point of view there is no-one that can touch him and he’s been influential in the time we have been together. At his age he now has a new challenge to go and attack and I’m sure he’ll be very good at it.
“Our first and foremost priority now is bringing in a player to replace him.”
Andy was visibly emotional when leaving the stadium after the match today, but gave his thoughts on the move and his time at Clyde:-
“It’s a big, big wrench for me, but going to St.Mirren is an opportunity to move onto another step that I would like to go to in my career. It was a hard decision to make and I’m sad and disappointed to be leaving.
“The offer came right out of the blue on Wednesday – it was a complete surprise. I have to thank Alan Kernaghan, Billy Reid and Billy Carmichael for allowing me to take this opportunity at this stage of the season. Management is something I would love to aspire to.
“As a professional you’re always disappointed to be out of the side and I’m from the old school. Some folk in this game are happy to sit on the bench but I’m not – I want to be playing. The bottom line is that the team has done well recently so I can’t grumble. This club is not about Andy Millen and in a week’s time I’ll be forgotten about. That’s football.
“I still think that I have a bit to offer on the playing side. I’ve had my critics in my career but I’ve played 110 games for Clyde and I hope to be able to play as much as possible for St.Mirren.
“When I came to Clyde the main aim was to stay in the First Division and now they’re a team sitting at the top of the league. That’s magnificent for me. Alan and Billy, along with the players, have worked tremendously hard and I hope they get the success they deserve. There’s no doubt that the good work will continue.
“I’d like to thank everybody at Clyde; I’ve had a great time here. There are a lot of very nice people at this club and, as I said, it was a very difficult decision for me and my family. The good thing is I’ll be able to come back to Broadwood and meet a lot of good people that I will keep in touch with.”
The Directors of Clyde FC would like to thank Andy for his fabulous professionalism and reliability both on and off the park during his time at the club and wish him every success as he enters a new stage in his career.
