Commercial Shake-Up Begins

Following a review of Clyde’s commercial activities, the Club today announced the appointment of David Mackinnon as Commercial Director.

Mr. Mackinnon, a former professional footballer, has wide experience in the leisure industry at board level, and is also well known in media circles as a football reporter for the BBC. His principal responsibilities with Clyde FC will be to develop the Club’s hospitality business and raise the Club’s profile in the local community and beyond.

Clyde chairman Billy Carmichael said of the appointment, “With his wide experience in the leisure business and the media, as well as his football background, David is uniquely placed to increase our income from corporate hospitality and other non-football activities and we are delighted to welcome him to the Club.”

Speaking to the website this afternoon David was full of enthusiasm for the challenge ahead. “The commercial activities review just carried out has been enlightening. I’ve been at Broadwood before of course but in the last couple of weeks the amount of enthusiasm for Clyde, the number people who obviously care so much about the Club is what has impressed me most. I can’t wait to start.”

I’ll be doing an interview with David on Wednesday, and he wants to answer YOUR questions. Make your way to the Message Board to post your question.

Joining him in the Commercial Department at Broadwood will be Bob McPherson who will be taking up the role of Advertising Manager on 10 October. Bob is well known to Clyde fans through his work with the “Target 2K” crowd-raising initiative and as a regular contributor to the Club’s programme, newspaper and website.

“Unlike David I’m going to have to wait until 10 October before I start,” said Bob. “My main responsibility will to be to increase advertising revenue for Clyde and let David get on with the hospitality side of things. He has the right business background for the job and is a super enthusiast. I thought I had a few ideas about helping Clyde! David has a very clear view of what he is trying to achieve and has a wide network of contacts in both business and football to help him achieve it. I really think he will be a tremendous asset and I’m really looking forward to working with him.”

The Club has also confirmed that stockbrokers DIRECT SHAREDEAL, the only independent execution only stockbrokers in Scotland, will be the Clyde’s shirt sponsor for this season. Direct Sharedeal’s product company SCOT X, the Glasgow-based market for unquoted companies, will feature on the club’s away strip.

Direct Sharedeal’s Malcolm McNiven expressed his delight about the Clyde connection: “We feel by sponsoring Clyde we have an excellent opportunity to expand our brand within Scotland and, like Clyde, Direct Sharedeal are ambitious and looking for continued success.”
