Recap

Clyde eased their relegation fears as they moved six points clear of the league basement while sending Bonnyrigg bottom with victory at New Douglas Park.

Darren Lyon replaced Ray Grant in the starting lineup as Darren Young made one change from the defeat against Elgin City.

The first chance of the match fell to Bonnyrigg in the second minute when Murray Aiken rounded past Andy Murdoch to fire a shot from the edge of the box, but the ball flew over the bar.

Clyde had an opportunity four minutes later as after a series of blocked crosses into the box, Darren Lyon caught the ball on the outskirts of the box, but his effort was off target.

However, the pressure from the hosts came to fruition in the 14th minute when Martin Rennie opened the scoring. Ross Lyon’s low shot towards goal was diverted into the back of the net by the striker from close range.

The Bully Wee looked buoyed by their early lead when Taylor Sutherland fed the ball to Dom Docherty from the centre of the box, but his close range shot was saved by Andrew McNeil.

With minutes until the break, Broque Watson aimed for an equaliser with a shot at the near post only to be blocked by Kennedy.

Clyde returned from the break on the front foot when Robbie Leitch waded into the box but his effort was straight at McNeil in an otherwise slow start to the second half.

In the 55th minute, Rennie’s effort from inside the box was comfortably collected by the ‘keeper while Aiken’s shot on the hour flew wide as both teams struggled for composure in the final third.

Two minutes later, the Rose were awarded a penalty after Angus Mailer was deemed to have been brought down in the box which Neil Martynuik converted to level the scoring.

With 20 minutes remaining, The Bully Wee came close with Rennie’s freekick which bruised the woodwork and an effort from Scott Williamson, but McNeil crouched down to block his effort from a tight angle.

It was however second time lucky for Williamson, who regained the hosts’ lead in the 76th minute after he caught the end of Robson’s cross to crash a header into the net from close range.

In the final ten minutes, Sutherland made a beeline for goal with a shot from a couple of yards out, but it was safely caught by McNeil as Clyde sought to double their advantage, which they achieved in injury time.

The visitor’s defensive frailties were exposed by Darren Hynes with his first goal for the club. He connected onto Rennie’s through ball to control with his chest and slotted a low effort beyond McNeil to seal the three points.
