Recap
League leaders Arbroath took an important step towards the Third Division title by securing a comfortable three points at Broadwood this afternoon.
Ally Park replaced Gavin Brown in an otherwise unchanged Clyde starting line-up.
The early play suggested that a close contest was going to unfold and it was the Bully Wee that were first to offer a serious threat on goal. Marc McCusker used his strength well and was unlucky to see his 20-yard shot come back out off the post.
To make matters worse, the visitors scored minutes later. A free-kick into the box wasn’t dealt with by the Clyde defence, allowing Keith Gibson to stab the ball past Bryn Halliwell.
The Red Lichties also delivered a crucial second blow soon afterwards. Ex-Broadwood man Adam Strachan had plenty of time to pick his spot following a pass from the left wing and he made no mistake.
Arbroath then settled into a disciplined defensive shape for the rest of the match, which limited the Bully Wee’s chances to get a goal back – especially in the second half.
A third goal on the counter-attack ended any hopes of a comeback and was scored by another former Clyde man, David McGowan. The forward collected a cut-back from the right and calmly placed a shot into the corner of the net to seal the victory.
