Kyle spent time in the youth academies of Blackburn Rovers and Kilmarnock, before stepping into senior football with a series of loan spells from the latter; to Airdrieonians, East Fife (under Darren Young) and Raith Rovers. He departed Killie in 2023, going on to have permanent stints at East Kilbride and Cove Rangers.

The forward was brought to The Bully Wee in the summer of 2024 and endured an injury-plagued first season with the club. Young, well aware of his talents, opted to retain him last summer and Connell went on to enjoy a productive season last term, managing to rack up double-figure tallies for both goals and assists.

Kyle signed a fresh one-year deal in May, taking his stay at Clyde to 2027.
