Cowdenbeath 1-3 Clyde

The Bully Wee cruised to their first points of the KDM Evolution Trophy this season with a victory over Cowdenbeath at Central Park today.

Stretched with injury and suspension, Darren Young made six changes to the side which took on Rangers B on Tuesday, and there was a place on the bench for ex-Clyde forward Lee Connelly as a trialist, after two years out with a knee injury.

Clyde opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Tam Cruden got the ball with his back to goal on the edge of the box, before turning and hitting a shot into the bottom corner of the net to open his goal account for The Bully Wee.

Cruden had a chance to double his tally in the 37th minute from the spot after Bobby Kiltie was fouled by home ‘keeper Blair Gallagher, but he redeemed himself and saved the penalty. Gallagher was called into action twice more before the interval, showing good reflexes to keep out efforts from Kyle Fleming and Bruce Strachan.

A second goal came in the 57th minute after Sam Campbell lost his marker and bulleted home a Strachan corner from close range, for his third goal in as many weeks.

Timam Scott and Lee Connelly were introduced from the bench 14 minutes later and they combined within 60 seconds of entering the field to add a third goal; Scott raced down the left and fizzed a ball into the ball, with the onrushing Connelly picking his spot and rifling it past Gallagher with his first touch.

Young also handed Danny Terry a debut in the closing stages but the replacement ‘keeper could do nothing as The Blue Brazil pulled a goal back after a push by Lewis Lovering in the box, with Rhys Walker finding the top corner from the penalty spot.
