Greg Macfarlane
All at the club were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of lifelong supporter Greg Macfarlane last week.
Greg first began attending matches at Shawfield in the 1960s alongside his dad, and twin brother Scott. He became a constant figure on the terraces, experiencing the many ups and downs of following Clyde, often in the company of his lifelong friend, Alex Slowey.
Greg helped run the East Kilbride Supporters’ Bus from his hometown to matches across the country. Those who travelled with him recall how he always looked out for the younger members on away days, making sure everyone was safe and never left behind!
In later years, Greg became a much-loved member of the Glasgow Branch of Clyde Supporters, where he made many new friends who will remember him fondly for his humour, camaraderie, and unwavering loyalty.
Greg’s favourite Clyde memory was the famous Scottish Cup victory over Celtic in 2006. He could hardly contain his delight while being interviewed outside Broadwood after the match, a moment captured in a clip shown on Sportscene that night.
In recent years, Greg faced his battle with cancer with great courage, missing only a few games during his treatment as he continued to support the team he loved.
Greg’s funeral will take place on Friday 14th November at 12 noon, at Linn Crematorium, and then onto the Montgomery Arms in East Kilbride. The family have extended an invite to all Clyde fans, with a request for Clyde colours. A link for those who cannot attend will also be available.
The thoughts and condolences of everyone at the club are with Greg’s children, Ashleigh and Alexander, his sister Ann, and all his family and friends at this sad time.
