PREVIEW: Clyde v Elgin City

The Bully Wee are at New Douglas Park for the second time in eight days tomorrow afternoon as they host Elgin City in Hamilton.

A win for the seventh place Clyde could see the gap from the league basement grow to ten points, while victory for Elgin, who have two games in hand, would consolidate their position in third and potentially close the distance on top-spot to six points.

Since their recent meeting in Moray last month, The Bully Wee have won two, lost two and drawn one of their last five. And despite last week’s defeat, they still maintain a strong home record with only two losses this season.

The Black and Whites travel to South Lanarkshire sitting two points clear in third place, partly due to going 11 matches unbeaten at the start of the season. However, Allan Hale’s men are winless in their last four away from home with their last victory recorded against The Spartans in October.

The most recent encounter between the sides ended in victory for tomorrow’s visitors after a six-goal thriller at Borough Briggs. A brace from Dylan Gavin and a goal from Dayshonne Golding had the hosts three goals up. However, second-half replies from Martin Rennie and Robbie Leitch made it 3-2, but a third from Gavin ten minutes from time ended any hope of a Clyde comeback.

The clubs also met in the second round of the Scottish Cup where The Bully Wee lost 8-7 on penalties after extra-time. Clyde looked to be progressing to the next stage, in what was Darren Young’s first match in charge, through Jordan Allan’s strike but Jack Murray equalised in the 88th minute. The first meeting of the season in Hamilton resulted in a goalless draw.

Out of 47 matches played between the sides, Clyde have won 21. The last time The Bully Wee lost to Elgin at their own ground was in October 2017.
