Clyde 0-0 Elgin City

The Bully Wee and Elgin City played out a goalless draw at New Douglas Park today, with Clyde finishing the afternoon a man down after Jordan Houston was shown a late red card.

Darren Young made two changes to his side with Darren Hynes replacing Houston who dropped to the bench, and Craig Howie coming in for the injured Martin Rennie. Ross Lyon also made a return to the squad.

Clyde were quick to create goal-scoring chances. After keeping pressure on Elgin from kick-off, Darren Hynes was able to cross the ball into the box following the corner. The ball was well met from Logan Dunachie but hit straight off of the bar.

Kyle Connell was unlucky moments after, attempting an audacious chip from nearly 40-yards out, following a Clyde break. Clyde would maintain the majority of the ball for the opening minutes, with a number of crosses put into the Elgin box.

Kane Hester would squander Elgin’s first real chance at goal, dragging a cutback well wide of Hemfrey’s goal. The rest of the first half saw Clyde firmly in the driving seat, with a header from Cuddihy tipped over and a overhit shot from Scullion the best chances to go ahead.

Following the restart, Logan Dunachie was slipped through by Robson but his shot was well saved by Elgin’s keeper. Minutes later, Clyde’s captain Lee Hamilton would head the ball across the box following a freekick, but no Clyde attacker was able to make use of the good chance.

Elgin began to mount fight back but the strong Bully Wee backline, particularly Craig Howie, were able to cut out a number of dangerous opportunities for the visitors. Callum Hannah would make way for Ross Lyon, who was applauded back onto the pitch by the Clyde faithful.

Ex-Clyde player Kian Leslie would be booked near the 70th minute for a bad foul on Darren Hynes. 10 minutes later, two potential handballs were ignored by the refereeing officials, causing outroar within the Clyde dugouts and stands. Manager Darren Young was booked for his protests.

More controversy followed, as minutes after being subbed on, Jordan Houston was given a straight red following a supposed dangerous challenge, causing further protests. However, Clyde were able to see the game out relatively comfortably, ensuring a well earned point.
