Clyde 3-2 Peterhead

Clyde registered back-to-back league wins for the first time this season following a dramatic afternoon at New Douglas Park.

Darren Young made two changes to his side, with Andy Murdoch and Robbie Leitch coming in for Marley Redfern and the injured Craig Howie.

The match struggled to spark to life in the early stages, with both teams unable to make any real inroads in the opposition final third as any threat quickly dealt with by both defences.  It was no surprise the first real effort at goal came from outside the box, as Max Barry unleashed an effort from 25 yards that flashed wide with Hemfrey covering.

The first 35 minutes were not an indication of the drama that was to come, and the spark that brought the game to life was delivered by Robbie Leitch.  Some neat interplay from Houston, Allan and Scullion saw the latter rolling the ball to Leitch, who delightfully curled home from inside the box.

Buoyed by this, Clyde were keen on pressing home the advantage, and it would not take them long to double their lead.  Martin Rennie outjumped his man from a throw in to send Jordan Allan on a driving run.  Just as he looked to be fouled, he got his pass away to Liam Scullion who beat his man, composed himself, and rolled the ball home to give The Bully Wee a commanding lead.

The lead was to be halved just before the break as a cross was redirected by Andy McCarthy past Hemfrey, leaving the keeper little chance, despite getting his fingers to it.

Clyde started the second half on the front foot, seeking to re-establish the two goal cushion before the inevitable pressure from Peterhead, but were unable to land a telling blow.  A spate of bookings, and Lee Hamilton going down injured, only increased the tension that was building.  Once Hemfrey was called in to action to deny the away side with a terrific save from a one-on-one chance, Peterhead started to pile on the pressure.

Clyde did not just sit in and sought to break quickly to get what would surely be a deciding third goal.  However, with just eight minutes remaining, it looked like they would be adding to the draw column as a deflected effort from Jack Brown found its way in to the net.

As the clock turned in to the 91st minute, Tommy Robson looped what seemed a hopeful ball towards the corner of Peterhead’s box, with Liam Scullion beating McKenzie to it and looping a superlative lob that bounced perfectly in to the top corner.  The home supporters greeted the final whistle with delight and showed their appreciation to the players for their efforts that moved The Bully Wee up to 8th and just 6 points from the promotion playoff spots.
