Rangers B 3-1 Clyde

Clyde’s 2024-25 Glasgow Cup campaign started with a defeat at the hands of Rangers B at the Rangers Training Centre this evening.

Darren Young took the opportunity to rotate his squad, with Milosz Sliwinski starting in goals and Chris McGinn appearing as a trialist. There was also a place on the bench for 18-year-old forward Dylan Watt, who featured for Clyde in pre-season; the youngster subsequently penned an amateur deal and recently returned from a loan spell at Benburb.

Rangers took the lead in the 12th minute when Findlay Curtis cottoned onto the ball on the corner of the box and curled a shot beyond the reach of Sliwinski into the corner of the net.

The Bully Wee had an immediate chance to draw level through Robbie Leitch but he snatched at his effort, allowing Mason Munn to hold.

Leitch had another attempt shortly after, this time directing a shot on target that looked destined for the corner, but Gers defender Nsiala got his body in the way to block, before Sliwinski was called into action at the other end, saving from Gentles.

The young Gers side doubled their advantage two minutes after a restart. Logan Dunachie went down in the box with a head knock following a collision with a Rangers forward but the referee allowed play to continue and Paul Nsio slotted beyond Sliwinski. Dunachie then needed treatment to clean blood from his face.

Kyle Connell had a chance to pull one back when the ball came to him at the back post, but Munn stood tall and denied him from a narrow angle.

Rangers then added a third midway through the half when Archie Stevens pounced on a loose pass and jinked into the box before finishing.

Sliwinski pulled off a couple of fine saves in the closing stages before Clyde got on the scoresheet with three minutes remaining, when Jordan Houston’s whipped cross from the right flank was headed into the corner of his own net by Leyton Grant.

Clyde’s next tie in the Glasgow Cup is against Celtic B on Tuesday 3rd December.
