Andy Williamson

All at the club were saddened to learn of the passing of Clyde supporter Andy Williamson (pictured centre) last month.

Andy’s funeral will take place on Friday 9th August at 10am at Hurlet Crematorium.

Fellow Clyde fan Jim Hutchinson penned this tribute to his good friend Andy which appeared in Saturday’s Clyde View:-

Andy was simply the greatest friend I ever had.

I know I will not offend any of my many other friends by stating this as I have been very fortunate in life to have made many friends whether socially, through work or as where I met Andy through following Clyde back in the Shawfield days.

Clyde was Andy’s great love and his whole life was dedicated to following the fortunes of his beloved Bully Wee. Indeed it was rumoured that the game wasn’t started until the players knew he was there! He followed the team everywhere and was rarely absent, indeed he was relieved when I asked him to be my best man that I was getting married on a Friday! He needn’t have worried Clyde didn’t have a game the next day.

Andy was a gentle person and kindness personified always more than ready to help. They say that “the true measure of a person is how they treat those who can do nothing for them”. That was Andy kind to everyone and a loyal friend to so many.

To relate the many stories and memories of times we shared would fill volumes as we followed Clyde everywhere, shared Wembley trips to see Scotland and even a World Cup in Spain, happy days full of laughter and fun. These are the memories I will keep of him with me forever not the sadness of the last few years when he retreated into his home. I wish I could have done more to reach him and try to bring him out to see the Bully Wee again but it was not to be although both I and others tried.

The world is a little darker now his light has gone but he will live on in the hearts and memory of those who knew and loved him.

So Rest in Peace Andy, til we meet again.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Andy’s family and friends at this sad time.
