Queen of the South 1-0 Clyde
There was no positive end to 2022 for The Bully Wee as a late goal at Palmerston gave Queen of the South all three points in an uneventful contest.
Jim Duffy selected an unchanged starting XI from last Friday’s draw with Alloa Athletic.
There was little goalmouth action to report in the first half though Clyde did work the ball through midfield well. They suffered a blow four minutes before the interval when Brian McLean was forced off with a lower leg injury.
The second half followed the same pattern with neither team creating any clear cut chances, with Ray Grant also requiring to leave the field injured.
Clyde began to conjure some chances as time wore on; Allan had a shot blocked then hit the rebound over, and Liam Scullion’s powerful strike from outside the box which looked bound for target was inadvertently blocked by Peter Grant.
The Doonhamers had the ball in the net as the match entered the final 10 minutes but it was ruled offside, though they would go on to take the victory with four minutes remaining. Iain Wilson strode up field on a counter attack and the ball made it’s way to Lewis Gibson on the wing, who cut inside and hit a deflected shot beyond Neil Parry.
