PREVIEW: Clyde v Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic
The Bully Wee welcome Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic to New Douglas Park this evening in the Premier Sports Cup, in what will be a historic night for both clubs. Clyde will begin a new era in their temporary home in Hamilton, whilst it will be the visitors’ first match as an SPFL outfit, after winning promotion via the Pyramid Playoffs last season.
Clyde and The Rose have met just once in competitive action before back in January 2020, when Ally Love’s late winner in the Scottish Cup in Midlothian saw Clyde progress to the fifth round to face Celtic.
Danny Lennon’s new look side will be aiming to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat at Easter Road. The Clyde gaffer is expected to have the same squad available which faced Hibs. Defender Steven Thicot is unavailable for selection whilst his work permit application is being processed, whilst Assistant Manager Allan Moore will also be absent for the opening weeks of the season, due to a family holiday in Australia.
Bonnyrigg manager Robbie Horn has retained the vast majority of his squad which won last season’s Lowland League and has added just four new faces to date, including veteran striker Kevin Smith from East Fife.
Supporters of both clubs are invited into the Fanzone from 6pm until kick-off. Entry to the Fanzone is via the Main Doors, and a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be on sale. Clyde fans can also purchase Season Passes in the Fanzone from 7.30pm.
