Clyde 2-1 Montrose
The Bully Wee turned in a much improved performance to pick up a vital three points against third placed Montrose, and secured cinch League 1 football for another season.
Aaron Splaine, Kevin Nicoll and Mark Docherty all returned to the side with Jonathan Page injured and Scott Rumsby unavailable, whilst Robert Jones dropped to the bench.
Clyde had a chance within the first couple of minutes after Aaron Splaine’s pass sent Ally Love through on goal but he skewed his effort wide.
Montrose took the lead a minute later after Graham Webster got in behind the Clyde defence and sent a cross in from the by-line, with Michael Gardyne glancing into the net.
Clyde were back on level terms before a quarter of an hour had elapsed. Morgaro Gomis’ dinked through ball was met by Splaine and his lob was tipped onto the bar by Allan Fleming, but the ball fell kindly for Lewis Jamieson and he tucked the rebound into the empty net.
Splaine then did well to slalom through the Montrose defence and sent a left footed shot on target, but Fleming held it.
The Bully Wee took then took the lead four minutes before the interval. Gomis took a quick short corner to Mark Docherty, who beat his man and sent a teasing cross into the box. Nick McAllister was on hand to power a header over the line, despite the best efforts of a defender to clear.
Montrose began to come more into the game in the second half and Paul Watson sent a header on target. The ball came through a group of bodies and was parried by Parry, then collected on the ground.
At the other end Docherty’s free-kick into the box was met by Kevin Nicoll who had a free header, but couldn’t direct on target.
The Gable Endies started to ramp up the pressure and Parry was called into action again, first making a goal line save in a stramash, then a double stop to preserve Clyde’s lead.
Clyde had chances on the counter though and Gomis showed great determination again to rob a Montrose defender of possession then had a crack at goal from outside the box, with his effort going narrowly wide.
Parry then made two more fine saves, to deny Lyall Cameron’s drive and a Lewis Milne chance at the back post as the match entered stoppage time.
Gomis once more showed great energy to win the ball back then set up Gregory Tade but his volley was well saved by Fleming, and with the last attack of the game Montrose had a golden chance to equalise through Blair Lyons unmarked in the six yard box, but he headed over the bar.
