Clyde 0-5 Montrose
It was a miserable day at Broadwood for The Bully Wee this afternoon, as Montrose cruised to an emphatic 5-0 victory.
Danny Lennon made two changes to the side from the match against Airdrieonians a fortnight ago, with Euan Deveney and Morgaro Gomis replacing Rob Jones and Paul Kennedy.
Clyde made a nightmare start and were a goal down after 70 seconds. An attack down the right wing led to a cross finding Lewis Milne at the back post, and his shot on target beat Neil Parry, despite the ‘keeper getting a hand on it.
The Gable Endies doubled their lead with five minutes played. Another cross from the right was fizzed low into the box, and Conrad Balatoni slid in but could only divert the ball high into his own net.
The Bully Wee almost pulled one back shortly after when David Goodwillie crossed for Aaron Splaine, but his header was turned behind by Aaron Lennox.
Montrose made it 3-0 before the half-hour mark after poor defending allowed Cammy F Ballantyne to drive in on goal and fire past Parry.
Goodwillie had a chance to reduce the deficit when he ran through on goal after being released by Splaine, but was unable to get a shot away and was eventually crowded out by visiting defenders.
Splaine then came close with a free-kick just before the interval, whilst Blair Lyons at the other end saw his drive from distance go narrowly over the bar.
Milne scored his second of the afternoon and Montrose’s fourth midway through the second half, after Graham Webster found him with a cutback inside the box.
Clyde then had to finish the game with ten men when Barry Cuddihy was forced off with an injury, after all three subs had been used.
The visitors rounded off the scoring in the 81st minute when substitute Craig Johnston rifled the ball into the net from close range.
