NEW SIGNING: Robert Jones

The club is pleased to announce the signing of forward Robert Jones on a one-year contract.

The towering striker, 25, started off with BSC Glasgow before having spells with East Fife, Albion Rovers and Stranraer.

Jones spent the last eighteen months with Dumbarton and featured in all four clashes against The Bully Wee last season, scoring in the League Cup fixture between the sides in October.

Danny Lennon spoke to the official website after capturing the signature of Jones:-

“On reflection, I think in the past couple of seasons in League One, we haven’t had enough variety in our forward play. We’ve been a little one dimensional, mostly because we’ve looked to focus on mastering a particular style of play. As a coach and manager I’m always thinking about how to improve our performance and results. Sometimes that means taking an objective step back and looking at things afresh with the lessons we’ve learned from our League One journey so far. In football, you either evolve or you get left behind.

“We’ve had a few players we’ve brought in on trial that all offer something very different. We need a wider range of different assets to call upon to provide us with a box of tricks that will keep the opposition guessing on how we will set up and allow us to vary things significantly during matches.

“Rob caught our eye this season and we wanted him in at pre-season training to analyse him close up for how we would deploy him. He causes defenders significant problems and whilst he doesn’t fall into the category of a prolific scorer, what he does incredibly well is draw defenders to open up space for the other forwards and midfield runners to hurt the opposition. His link play and ability to hold the ball whilst we shape an attack is very good. He also brings height to set plays in both boxes. He fits the bill for what we are looking for to add another dimension to our forward play and we look forward to his contribution in the famous Clyde jersey this season.”
