Partick Thistle 2-0 Clyde

The Bully Wee suffered a defeat at the hands of old rivals Partick Thistle tonight, with two second half goals giving The Jags all three points at Firhill.

Only Tom Lang, Scott Rumsby and David Goodwillie retained their places from Saturday’s trip to Falkirk as Danny Lennon freshened his side. There was a debut in goals for David Wilson, with David Mitchell suffering from a minor niggle.

Wilson looked assured and dealt with several crosses into the box in the opening stages. He did well to hold onto a shot from Brian Graham following a counter attack, in what was the only real chance of the first half.

The opening 20 minutes of the second half was also fairly uneventful, before The Jags opened the scoring through substitute Zak Rudden. Scott Tiffoney went on a run down the left and got to the by-line, before firing a cross across the face of goal, and Rudden was at the back post to chest it into the net.

The Bully Wee had a chance to hit back a few minutes later with a Josh Jack free-kick, but it was tipped around the post by Jamie Sneddon. The home ‘keeper then saved Martin McNiff’s header from the resulting corner.

Rudden then created another opportunity when he took the ball around Wilson and cut back to Joe Cardle who fired an effort towards goal, but the youngster was able to get back in position and hold the shot.

Tom Lang was pushed up front as Clyde searched for an equaliser and he flicked a long ball on for David Goodwillie to run on to. The Bully Wee skipper drove towards goal but his effort went just wide.

At the other end Cardle came close again when his effort from the edge of the area curled over the bar, before the points were sealed in stoppage time when Rudden had time to control a cross in the box and hammer past Wilson.
