Barry Enjoys Cup Progression Feeling

Barry Cuddihy spoke to the press following Saturday’s 1-0 win over Championship side Ayr United in the Scottish Cup.

The 24-year-old got Clyde off to the perfect start as he found the back of the net after just four minutes, with what proved to be the decisive goal.

“It was a brilliant result getting into the next round of the cup and that’s always a good feeling,” he said. “It was a really hard game, but we got through and that’s all that matters. An early goal is always good and it helped to settle our nerves. We knew with Ayr being in the league above they would come at us and try to get an equaliser as soon as they could, but we persevered, kept a good shape and managed to get the result.

“We always fancy ourselves. There’s a stat that we’re unbeaten in four of our last five away games in the cup, so you always have to fancy yourself and you never know what can happen. We kept a solid shape and made it hard for Ayr throughout the game.”

Barry concluded by addressing the hectic fixture schedule Clyde face over the next few weeks and how it has affected the squad:-

“The fixtures have been really tough, having games Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday and it’s the same again next week. Now with this win there’s another game added to the schedule! It’s all about managing it properly. We have quite a big squad now and we’re rotating it fairly regularly.

“Most of the boys are juggling work and football. It is hard, but it’s just one of these things. These are the cards we’ve been dealt so there’s no point in moaning about it. We have to just keep going and try to get results, like we have in this game.

“The league is where we really need to kick on and start getting results.”
