Jim McLean
All at the club were saddened to hear of the passing of former Clyde player, Jim McLean.
Jim joined Clyde from Hamilton Academical in February 1961 and stayed with The Bully Wee until February 1965, when he moved to Dundee. In total, Jim featured in 153 matches for The Bully Wee, scoring 50 goals.
Jim also had the distinction of being one of a select group of players who was on the Clyde books at the same time as his brother, Willie McLean who joined Jim and played for the club for season 1963-64.
After four seasons at Dundee he then moved to Kilmarnock where he ended his playing career. However, he was soon back at Dens Park on the coaching staff, before being appointed Dundee United manager in December 1971; a role that of course made him famous not only in Scotland but throughout British and European football.
A full tribute to Jim will be published in a future edition of the Clyde View.
The club’s thoughts and condolences go to Jim’s family and friends at this sad time.
