Ben Clark Jones

The club was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of supporter, Ben Clark Jones on Christmas day.

Originally from the East End of Glasgow, Ben’s family moved to East Kilbride during the War. As his lifelong support for The Bully Wee began, Ben had the privilege of seeing Clyde win the Scottish Cup in both 1955 and 1958.

A shareholder, and one of the inaugural members of the then newly formed Executive Club during the club’s Shawfield days, Ben was known as the ‘entertainment convener’, raising much-needed funds for the club via events such as dinners and dances. He also organised the fundraising initiative to provide a mini bus for supporters to travel to home and away games in the eighties.

Ben had a close relationship with Craig Brown and Craig always appreciated Ben’s input at Club shareholder meetings. He scouted voluntarily for players and he was responsible for bringing Dougie Imrie to Clyde. Ben also closely followed the career of Craig Bryson – a fellow East Kilbride resident – who of course developed into a Scottish international after starting out at Broadwood.

Ben moved to Menorca in 2016 and became a Spanish resident. The story goes that every Sunday at his local church in Menorca, during service the vicar Paul Sturridge would read out the Clyde score to the congregation!

Ben is survived by his wife Joyce, son Russell and grandchildren Brodie and Lawrie.

The club’s thoughts are with Ben’s family and friends at this sad time.
