CITY OF GLASGOW CUP: Rangers Colts 3-2 Clyde
The Bully Wee lost out by the odd goal in five to Rangers Colts this evening, in an entertaining City of Glasgow Cup contest at the Hummel Training Centre.
Chris McStay was included in the Clyde team after recovering from a recent injury.
The Gers opened the scoring with only two minutes on the clock when Ciaran Dickson broke down the right wing and squared the ball for Dapo Mebude to slot home from close range.
They doubled their lead in the 18th minute after James Maxwell found the back of the net directly from a curling free-kick just outside the area.
Clyde reduced the deficit in the 34th minute when Barry Cuddihy’s long ball was met by Darren Smith, and he nodded it past the advancing Rangers ‘keeper from the edge of the box.
The Bully Wee dominated second half proceedings and came close through Smith again but his effort was saved, and Chris McStay’s drive from distance whistled past the post.
The Gers got the next goal against the run of play midway through the half, after John Balde dribbled into the Clyde box before finishing past Michael McGee.
Smith then rattled the crossbar from distance, before Clyde pulled one back with five minutes remaining. Derek Elder’s low cross into the box ended up at the feet of McStay, and he fired the ball home.
