Stirling Albion 0-2 Clyde

A goal at the end of each half saw Clyde progress to the fourth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup at Forthbank this afternoon.

Danny Lennon made just one change to the side that played at Inverness last Saturday, with captain David Goodwillie returning from injury to replace Ross Lyon.

Stirling Albion had the first effort on target through Paul Willis, but David Mitchell was equal to his drive from a wide angle.

The hosts tried to threaten again as Dylan Bikey got in behind the Clyde defence, but Kieran Duffie timed a tackle in the box to perfection, just as the forward was about unleash a shot.

The best chance for The Binos fell to Sean Heaver after a good passing move saw him one-on-one with Mitchell, but the Clyde ‘keeper made an excellent save to deny him.

Clyde opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time after Tony Wallace was released down the right wing. He fired a cross into the box for Darren Smith to run on to, and he lobbed the ball over the head of Blair Currie and into the back of the net.

Substitute Alex Petkov came close to doubling the advantage in the second half but his header went narrowly past the post.

David Goodwillie was next to try his luck, after turning and unleashing a powerful shot from 25 yards out. Currie pulled off a good save however, tipping the effort over the bar.

The result was secured in stoppage time after a through ball from Martin McNiff sent Goodwillie clear on goal. He took the ball round Currie before the ‘keeper tripped him, and referee Lloyd Wilson pointed to the spot. Goodwillie took the spot kick and waited until his old teammate dived to the left, before confidently chipping the ball down the middle of the goal.
