Grant Reflects on First Quarter
Ray Grant spoke the press following Clyde’s 2-0 home defeat to Montrose in Ladbrokes League 1 on Saturday.
The midfielder started by commenting on what was a disappointing afternoon against the Angus side.
“It was a thoroughly disappointing performance, there’s no getting away from that,” he said. “What we have to look at though are the performances we’ve put in over the first quarter of the season. We have a good points return and I think we’ve played well in the last six weeks.
“I think we could have more points than we have, but today wasn’t good enough. The bottom line is that none of us performed to our capabilities and Montrose deserved to win. One of the disappointing things for me is that we’ve shown what we can do in terms of coming back from being behind, for example against Dumbarton last week. At half-time we’re always confident we can turn the game around but today we just weren’t at it.
“Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think anyone didn’t put in 100% effort but the ball just didn’t bounce for us today and we’ve got to learn from that. I’m sure next week we’ll go up to Arbroath and put in a better performance.”
The 23-year-old gave his thoughts on the first round of fixtures in the 2019-20 campaign and how the team has adapted to being in a higher league:-
“I think we’ve done well. I’ve said many times that we’re different to other teams in the way that we play, but we’ve got to get results. Every team is a challenge, in the same way it was last year – every game was tough.
“We know every game will be hard, regardless of how we’re playing or who we’re playing. We can beat anyone in this league, but today we didn’t get the result that we wanted and can we have any complaints? I don’t think so.”
Grant finished by looking ahead to this week’s match against Arbroath in the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup:-
“We just have to get back to winning ways. If that’s in the cup or in the league, we don’t care, we want to win every game. We’re not wishing it was a league game, we just want to get back to winning and that’s exactly what we’ll try to do next week.”
