Elgin City 2-1 Clyde

The Bully Wee’s long run of good form came to an end at Borough Briggs today, as Elgin took all of the points in the Ladbrokes League 2 match.

Danny Lennon made two changes to the starting line-up after the win over Edinburgh City, with Dylan Cogill and Ally Love coming in for the suspended Tom Lang and Jordan Stewart.

The game started off evenly, as both sides looked to open the scoring early on, but both struggled to really test either goalkeeper.

Elgin did open the scoring after 10 minutes though, as a good cross into the box found Ross MacIver in the area and Blair Currie could only parry his powerful diving header into the net.

As it looked like the game would go into the break at 1-0, Kyle Gourlay spilled a John Rankin cross when the ball collided with the bar and Martin McNiff took advantage by striking the ball off the home ‘keeper while he appeared to be behind the line. The linesman flagged for the goal straight away, to the surprise of the Elgin players.

The Bully Wee had the better of the chances after half-time as Goodwillie, Boyle and Grant all had decent strikes but Gourlay made amends and kept the scores level.

City scored the winner ten minutes from time, as a through ball cut open the Clyde defence, leaving Ross MacIver one-on-one with Currie. The striker made no mistake, grabbing his second goal of the game and it proved to be the winner.
