Albion Rovers 0-1 Clyde
Martin McNiff’s 10th goal of the season gave The Bully Wee all three points from their clash with Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill this afternoon.
Danny Lennon made one change to the side from last Saturday’s victory over Annan Athletic, with Kristoffer Syvertsen replacing Kieran Duffie.
The first half was a turgid affair with neither goalkeeper tested but Syvertsen had an opportunity just after the interval when he was on the end of Mark Lamont’s low cross, but his shot was deflected behind.
David Goodwillie then created an opening for himself in the box but his shot was also deflected by a Rovers defender, and it hit the side netting.
Rovers ‘keeper Peter Morrison made a superb save from Scott Rumsby’s header which looked destined for the top corner, and he was called into action again moments later to deny Goodwillie.
The home side almost took the lead through ex-Clyde man Smart Osadolor after he cut inside Barry Cuddihy and unleashed a shot, which cracked off the post.
The decisive moment came in the 79th minute when John Rankin whipped a free-kick into the box, and Martin McNiff was on hand to head home from close range.
Clyde had a chance to wrap up the game in stoppage time when Jack Boyle released Goodwillie on the counter attack, but as the striker was about to shoot, the ball took a bobble on the bumpy pitch, and the shot went well over.
