Queen’s Park 1-0 Clyde

Clyde’s recent poor record at Hampden continued as Queen’s Park took all three points this afternoon thanks to a Josh Peters penalty.

Danny Lennon made one change to his side, with last week’s matchwinner Karim Belmokhtar earning his first Bully Wee start, replacing Ally Love.

The Spiders had the better of the opening stages without really testing Blair Currie, but they broke the deadlock after 26 minutes after referee David Lowe penalised Kevin Nicoll for a push in the box. Currie guessed right but he could not keep out Peters’ spot kick.

The Bully Wee tried to respond through Karim Belmokhtar but his header was held by ‘keeper Jordan Hart. John Rankin also had an effort just before the interval, which flashed narrowly wide of the post.

Shortly after the restart, David Goodwillie had a golden chance to equalise after being played through on goal by Belmokhtar, however his tame effort was saved by Hart.

Goodwillie was denied again by Hart following a jinking run, and a long-range Rankin free-kick went justover the bar.

Clyde threw men forward in the closing stages in search for a goal and it looked like they may have had one following a scramble in the box, but Gerry McLauchlan made a crucial block to preserve his side’s lead.

The Spiders then caught Clyde on the break and had a chance to seal the game through ex-Bully Wee forward Smart Osadolor, but he took too long to get an effort away and his shot was blocked.
