Clyde 1-0 Albion Rovers

A first-half goal from Martin McNiff handed Clyde all three points against Albion Rovers this afternoon, though the margin of victory ought to have been more emphatic.

Danny Lennon made no changes to the side that won in Annan a fortnight ago, with new signings Ross Lyon and Karim Belmokhtar on the bench.

The Bully Wee dominated straight from the off and Barry Cuddihy was unlucky when his dipping effort from 30 yards went just over the bar.

Rovers ‘keeper Peter Morrison then made two excellent saves in quick succession, first blocking from Ally Love, then getting his fingertips onto Mark Lamont’s rebound to turn the ball behind.

The visitors had Morrison to thank again when he held a powerful low shot from Chris McStay.

With 20 minutes gone, McStay played a short corner-kick to John Rankin, who whipped the ball into the box. It went to the back post, where Martin McNiff was on hand to hook the ball past Morrison and into the corner of the net.

David Goodwillie then passed up a chance to double the advantage shortly after, when Lamont burst down the left wing and crossed into the box, but the striker’s effort whistled past the post.

Morrison denied Lamont again after the interval, making another spectacular stop from the midfielder’s curling effort from outside the box.

Goodwillie had another chance late on to seal the points after a run from deep but he fired his effort straight at Morrison whilst through on goal.
