Clyde 1-1 Edinburgh City
A last-gasp leveller from Martin McNiff earned The Bully Wee a point against Edinburgh City in the Betfred Cup at Broadwood this afternoon, though the visitors gained the bonus point after prevailing in a penalty shoot-out.
Joe Gorman and John Rankin were both handed starting debuts by Danny Lennon, with another three new faces on the bench.
David Goodwillie forced Callum Antell into early action when the ball fell to him inside the box, but the Edinburgh ‘keeper made a good stop.
Ray Grant then came close, with only the post denying his left-footed attempt from the edge of the area.
Edinburgh City took the lead just before the interval, when a free-kick was met by the head of Conrad Balatoni, and nodded past Blair Currie from close range.
Chances in the second half were few and far between, though Graham Taylor cut in from the wing and curled an effort past Currie. The post however prevented The Citizens from doubling their advantage.
The Bully Wee did rally late on though and a goalbound shot from substitute Eddie Ferns was deflected behind for a corner.
As the game entered the fifth minute of stoppage time, John Rankin’s long throw into the box found Martin McNiff, who blasted an effort home into the roof of the net to send the game to penalties.
Goodwillie scored Clyde’s first penalty, but Antell then saved subsequent spot kicks from Grant and Ferns. Craig Thomson sealed the bonus point for his side, as the penalty shootout finished 4-1 in favour of Edinburgh City.
