NEW SIGNING: John Rankin
The club is pleased to announce the signing of vastly experienced midfielder John Rankin.
The 34-year-old started his career with Manchester United, and went on to play for Ross County, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Hibernian, Dundee United and Falkirk. He most recently had an 18-month spell with Queen of the South, before leaving the Dumfries side last month, and has made over 500 appearances in his career to date.
Rankin also represented Scotland in a ‘B’ international in 2005, and spent five and a half years as Chairman of PFA Scotland, before stepping down from the role earlier this year.
John put pen to paper on a one-year contract yesterday evening, and spoke to the official website about what attracted him to The Bully Wee, and his ambitions for the upcoming season:-
“I’m delighted, obviously. I spoke to Danny and the chairman and it really appealed to me. I’m a local boy, I could probably walk to the stadium, and that was a big part of it, as well as the club’s ambition to win the league or get promoted. That is massive in the stage of my career to try and achieve something like that.
“I don’t think anyone would shy away from winning the league. It’s all about getting promotion, everyone will say it doesn’t matter how you do it, it’s about getting the club into a higher league and that is what we can achieve.”
Manager Danny Lennon also commented on his latest signing:-
“We are delighted to announce the signing of John Rankin. In John we have acquired a player with great experience, superb technical ability, effective leadership and a winning mentality.
“Those qualities, added to the exciting mix of players we have in place for the coming season, will help us to deliver a season we can be proud of.”
