Edinburgh City 1-3 Clyde

The Bully Wee recorded a convincing victory in Edinburgh this afternoon, to keep their hopes of reaching the play-offs alive going into the final weekend of the Ladbrokes League 2 season.

Danny Lennon named the same starting XI and substitutes from last Saturday’s win against Stirling Albion.

Jack Boyle had the first opportunity of the afternoon when he jinked into the box and aimed a shot at the top corner, which Edinburgh City ‘keeper Callum Antell had to tip behind.

Martin McNiff then came even closer, when his volley from a corner was cleared off the line.

Boyle was causing havoc for the home defence and won a penalty for his side. After playing a one-two with David Goodwillie, he was barged over whilst bearing down on goal. Goodwillie confidently sent Antell the wrong way to open the scoring.

Just before the interval an inswinging free-kick from Jordan Stewart was cleared off the line, and a Boyle volley from outside the box was held by Antell.

Goodwillie had the ball in the net again within 30 seconds of the restart after being played through by Mark Lamont, and stroked the ball past the advancing Antell.

Dylan Cogill then netted his first goal for Clyde when he lost his marker and sidefooted home from a dangerous Chris McStay corner.

The Citizens got a consolation when Kevin Nicoll handled a cross into the box, and Craig Beattie made no mistake from the spot.

They had another couple of chances late on, first Blair Currie had to show good reflexes to keep out an effort from Beattie, and then Farid El Alagui charged down a Currie clearance from close range, but the ball fell narrowly on the wrong side of the post for the hosts.
