Ian Roberts

The club was shocked and saddened to learn yesterday that Ian Roberts had died suddenly at the age of 50, after suffering a heart attack.

Ian was a third generation and lifelong supporter of The Bully Wee, having seen his first match at Shawfield in 1972. He regularly attended games with his family and was well-known to many other fans, particularly through his previous involvement with the Club Shop.

After helping to establish the Clyde Supporters’ Trust as a founder member in 2003, Ian’s continued service on the Trust committee and his own background in retail, led to him being tasked with managing the Clyde Shop, both at Broadwood and online. His expertise and enthusiasm for the project provided a much-needed overhaul of the club’s retail operation. As well as running a profitable venture for several years – ably assisted by his partner, Laura – the greatly enhanced service level and personal touch available to supporters was widely appreciated.

Although no longer involved in the retail side, Ian was still a willing volunteer around the club, including the use of his calligraphy skills and contribution to the 200 Fund presentations on home matchdays this season.

The club’s thoughts are with Laura, Charlene, Lewis and all his other family and friends at this very difficult time.

Details of funeral arrangements will be posted when they are confirmed.
