Under-20s: Clyde 2-0 Queen’s Park

The Bully Wee’s under-20 side took on Queen’s Park at Broadwood on Sunday, in the latest game in the SPFL Development League West.

Clyde started the game brightly and good passing allowed a number of chances to be created. The good play was eventually rewarded as Scott Ferguson sent in a great delivery from a free kick and the ball was met by the head of a trialist defender, who thundered the ball into the net to put Clyde ahead at the break.

The second half saw more of the same good attacking play from Clyde, with more chances created, but without being able to double the lead. However, later on in the half, Pinio Dachnowicz got the better of a Queen’s Park defender and then brought down in the box, with a penalty awarded by the referee. Aaron Millar stepped up and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner, sending the keeper the wrong way to put Clyde 2-0 up.

Good defensive work in the closing minutes saw the youngsters see out an impressive win.

Speaking to the offcial website, head coach Tony McNally said:-

“This was the best performance since I joined the club. All round there was outstanding work rate, desire and great decision making on and off the ball. It was an excellent team effort today from all of the players and staff.

“Myself and Ian Currie are delighted with how the lads are buying into our methods and our demands of them. They are now getting better on the ball and applying the patterns of play and technical aspect of the game.”

Next up in the league is a home match against Airdrie, at the Broadwood Astro on Sunday afternoon.
