Dinner Speakers Confirmed

The club is pleased to open bookings and confirm full details, including a line-up of first class speakers, for the upcoming 2017 Clyde FC Sportsman’s Dinner.

As previously announced, the event will take place at the iconic Barras Art and Design (BAaD) venue in Glasgow on Saturday 11th November, from 7pm to late.

Two superb headline acts have been secured for the evening; Phil Differ and Willie Allan.

Phil Differ

In a career spanning over thirty five years, Phil has been behind many of Scotland’s most popular and best loved comedy shows. Phil began his comedy career as a writer providing gags and sketches for such shows as Not the Nine O’Clock News and Spitting Image before becoming a Senior Producer in BBC Scotland’s Comedy Unit, the department responsible for, among others, Naked Video, Rab C. Nesbitt, Scotch and Wry, City Lights and, the show Phil is best known for, Only An Excuse?
After leaving the BBC to form an independent production company, Phil and The Comedy Unit went on to chalk up even more success with Chewin’ the Fat, Still Game, Offside and Watson’s Wind Up.
As well as continuing to write, produce and direct for television, radio and theatre, Phil is a regular on Scotland’s thriving stand-up comedy circuit as well as a popular speaker at Sportsman’s Dinners and Burns Suppers.

Willie Allan

Willie was born in Edinburgh and brought up in Dunfermline in the Kingdom of Fife. He has been a P.E. teacher since 1984 and is presently Principal Teacher of Physical Education at Buckhaven High School in Fife. A keen sportsman, Willie spent 13 seasons as a non-tackling stand off with Dunfermline Rugby Club and also represented The North and Midlands. Willie was forced to give up the game due to a serious knee injury but has concentrated his efforts on coaching and has re-established rugby at Buckhaven High School with the formation of the Buckhaven Sharks.
Willie has been on the after dinner circuit since 1992. His ability to adapt his material to any audience has led to many bookings the length and breadth of the United Kingdom and further afield; particularly in the corporate market.
Earlier this year, Willie was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his service to youth rugby and charity.

Details of the menu for the four-course dinner, to be served in the Courtyard area at BAaD, will be confirmed soon.

Ticket prices have been set at £55 per person, with a reduction to £50 for club owners and to £500 for a table of ten booking. Places can be secured now be emailing commercial@clydefc.co.uk or directly through the official online payment page.

Clyde director, Gordon Nisbet said: “Our dinner remains one of the most important fundraising dates on the calendar and attending it is a great way to support the club and, ultimately, Jim Chapman and the first team squad.

“We hope to see as many supporters and businesses as possible at the event, taking place for the first time at BAaD; a really unique venue in Glasgow.”
