Under-20s: QoS 2-0 Clyde
Clyde’s under-20 side kicked-off the 2017-18 Development League West campaign this week, with an away fixture against Queen of the South.
The match, at Palmerston Park on Tuesday night, ended in a 2-0 loss.
Queen of the South took the lead in the first half when Ilies Belkacem couldn’t keep out a lob from just outside the box. The Bully Wee were given a great opportunity to bring the scores level in the second half from the penalty spot, but the effort was kept out by the home ‘keeper.
The hosts then doubled their lead from a set piece, while Clyde failed to put away some late chances.
CLYDE: Belkacem, Bradley, Martin, Warnock, Wilson, Lowdan, Wright, Davidson, Millar, Dachnowicz, Trialist.
Jim Chapman, who oversaw the game, said: “I was really pleased with what the team did. They created a lot of chances but just didn’t take them and missing the penalty at 1-0 down was crucial, as it would have obviously changed the game.
“These games give experience for the younger lads as well as building up match fitness for some of the first team players. We’re going to be using these games for reserve team football this year, as the younger lads will also be back up to the first team.”
One name that featured in the Clyde team was Jordan Lowdon, as he continues to recover from a long-term knee injury.
“It was great to see Jordan back,” Jim continued. “He played for the first 45 minutes and I’m sure he was a bit stiff and sore for the next few days. That’s what these games are for though, to build up fitness. He had a big smile on his face which is great to see and hopefully there’s light at the end of the tunnel for him now.
“I’ve been in that tunnel myself so I know what it’s like. We still have to be cautious and we’ll have to build him up again slowly, but it was great to see him on the park and with a smile.”
