Foundation Receives Young Start Award

The Clyde FC Community Foundation has received an award of £48,000 from the Big Lottery Fund – Young Start, to run a project called ‘Start Young, Grow Young’.

The project will focus on young children aged eight years and above, using a range of sport and exercise to encourage them to have more healthy and active lifestyle. The group will work with young people in the Kildrum and Carbrain areas of Cumbernauld.

Young Start aims to create opportunities for Scotland’s children and young people aged eight to 24 to help them realise their full potential.

John MacKinnon, chair of the Community Foundation, said: “The Young Start funding facilitates an excellent opportunity to deliver a wide range of sporting activities, to promote healthy lifestyles and to develop the talents of this exciting next generation of young people. The project is designed to engage, encourage and inspire young people, ensuring they have the best possible opportunity in life. This funding will make a positive difference and I am delighted for the Clyde FC Community Foundation and looking forward to the benefits it will deliver for young people in their local community.”

Tom Elliott, Community Foundation development manager, added: “I’m thrilled with the fantastic news. We’re really looking forward to working with the young people of Cumbernauld and helping to make a difference in their lives.”

Young Start is a grants programme run by Big Fund, which is the non-lottery funding operation of the Big Lottery Fund, and which is distributing money from dormant bank accounts. Dormant accounts are deposits of money in bank and building society accounts where there has been no activity for 15 years or more.
