PREVIEW: Clyde v Dumbarton

Clyde’s Betfred Cup campaign continues tomorrow, with a home match against Dumbarton in Group E of the competition.

The Sons lost their opening match to Ayr United on Tuesday, with The Bully Wee picking up three points out of six so far.

Clyde will be missing several players in the matchday squad. David Goodwillie and Jordan Stewart are suspended, with Scott Ferguson facing at least two weeks on the sidelines due to an abdominal tear. Club captain Kevin Nicoll also won’t take part, due to a prearranged personal engagement, which the club were aware of in advance.

Speaking to the official website this evening, Jim Chapman said: “There’s an opportunity for players to come into the team tomorrow and show that they’ve been working hard and listening to what we’ve been trying to put in place as a group.

“As I’ve said before, I like the new Betfred Cup format. With all due respect to our current position, it offers us four good challenges at an early stage and we can learn a lot from the matches. I’ve been really pleased with what we’ve done so far, with areas that we know we still need to work on.

“Dumbarton have done really well to maintain their Championship position over the last few years and they will want to bounce back from their defeat on Tuesday. It’s going to be another big test for us but we showed some excellent qualities at Kilmarnock and we can build on that.

“The turnout from the supporters at Rugby Park and the backing that they gave to the team was also very encouraging.”

The match will be played over 90 minutes only, however all drawn games in the group stage of the competition go straight to penalties, with the shoot-out winners receiving two points and the losers one point.
