Thanks to JP and Peter

The club would like to place on record its gratitude to JP McGovern and Peter MacDonald, after it was confirmed that both men are leaving Clyde this summer.

JP and Peter entered the 2016-17 season as players, but were placed jointly in charge of the first team at the begining of March. In difficult circumstances, they combined management with taking part on the pitch, as The Bully Wee’s League 2 status was eventually secured on the last day of the season.

Clyde chairman, Norrie Innes said: “Both Peter and Jon Paul had the courage and conviction to step forward and take on a responsible role, under pressurised circumstances and conditions. They had to very quickly adjust to the instant challenge of transforming themselves from teammates to joint interim managers. This is never easy and it was intense – for all of us.

“They both applied themselves very well and, overall, they gained very valuable experience. It is essential for them that they both seek the right environment and effective ways to progress their learning and development, as I have no doubt that they could both develop into very good coaches.

“I wish them both well and I will always be available to try and help and support their progression.”

Jim Chapman added: “I’d like to extend my personal thanks to Jon Paul and Peter, for their professionalism and the respect that they have shown to me since I was appointed.

“It was a difficult decision to let them go because they are both quality players with a huge amount of experience. Given the situation, we had to look to make a clean break and both of them fully understood that.

“It would be remiss of me, as someone coming in to take over, not to thank them for the job they did. They are young coaches who entered a difficult position, but they deserve tremendous credit for the way they handled themselves and for keeping the club in League 2.”
