Squad Update

As the club enters its second week of pre-season training, Jim Chapman has given a squad update to the official website.

He started with the latest position on midfielder Scott Linton and goalkeeper Connor Quinn, who are now expected to leave Clyde this summer. He said:-

“We made offers to Scott and Connor as we confirmed last week, but they have exercised their right as free agents and as a club we have to move on. The door is still open to them, but we have to look elsewhere now and continue our planning.”

Linton joined The Bully Wee in 2015 and went on to make 72 appearances for the club over two seasons, scoring 14 goals and being named in the 2015-16 PFA League 2 Team of the Year. Quinn was signed ahead of the Scottish Cup tie at Ayr United in February and put in a superb display in that match. However, injury thwarted his short spell with Clyde and he was only able to make four more appearances.

Everyone at the club wishes both men well in their future careers.

On Phil Johnston, who returned from holiday last week, Jim continued: “Phil has been taking part in our pre-season sessions and I’ve had discussions with him about various factors, including finance. At the moment, we are giving him some time to think about his own situation.”

The Clyde manager concluded with a word on the ongoing recruitment process:-

“We have targets and we are working hard to try and make those moves possible. We’ve also invited a number of trialists into the training schedule and, as we move into our friendlies from this weekend, we’ll be able to see how they fit in in a match environment.”
