Clyde 1-1 Berwick Rangers
The Ladbrokes League 2 relegation battle will go to the final day of the season, with The Bully Wee and The Wee Gers still requiring a point to ensure safety following a draw at Broadwood today.
There were three changes to the Clyde team following last week’s defeat at Forfar, with Chris Smith, Phil Johnston and Sean Higgins coming in for Ross Perry, Jordan McMillan and Matt Flynn.
With a lot at stake for both clubs, there was a scrappy start to the match, with a blustery wind also contributing to the play.
Clyde came closest to scoring when an excellent free-kick delivery by Scott McLaughlin just missed Smith and Goodwillie in the six yard box.
After 33 minutes, Goodwillie did well to get on the end of a long pass and visiting goalkeeper Sean Brennan collided with him, resulting in a penalty. David Gormley (pictured) found the bottom corner with a nice finish from the spot to make it 1-0.
Shortly before half-time, The Bully Wee survived a scare when a Steven Thomson corner looked to be heading straight into the net, but Kyle Gourlay did well to get across and push the ball away from the top corner.
Clyde had a strong penalty claim waved away early in the second half, but it was Berwick that started to look the stronger side and they equalised after 55 minutes. A very debatable free-kick was floated into the back post area and Jonny Fairbairn was able to get on the end of it and bundle the ball home.
At the other end, McLaughlin saw his volley tipped over the bar, with substitute Matt Flynn also hitting a first time shot that looked to be heading towards goal, before it took a big deflection and looped just wide of the other post.
However, Berwick finished the match strongly and came very close to getting a late winner, when Aaron Murrell’s header bounced out off the top of the post.
