Clyde 0-2 Cowdenbeath
Cowdenbeath closed the gap at the bottom of the Ladbrokes League 2 table this evening, after a frustrating and disappointing night for The Bully Wee at Broadwood.
With McNiff and Gormley suspended and goalkeepers Gibson and Quinn injured, Ryan Finnie and Sean Higgins were added to the starting line-up and under-20 ‘keeper Mark McMillan was awarded his first start.
The best two chances of the first half fell to Clyde, specifically Peter MacDonald. The top scorer saw his early penalty saved – following a needless challenge by Scott Rumsby – and then missed the target when the ball fell kindly to him in the box.
However, just before the break, with Phil Johnston off the pitch after receiving treatment the visitors scored when a long range shot was spilled by McMillan and Kyle Miller pounced on the rebound.
Immediately after the restart, MacDonald came close yet again but his low shot rolled just past the post.
The Blue Brazil soon capitalised once more, with David Syme getting on the end of a corner kick from the left and forcing the ball home from close range.
Most of the rest of the match featured Clyde trying to find a way to break down the away team, but with only occasional success.
Sean Higgins couldn’t get enough on Scott Ferguson’s low cross, with his sliding effort coming back out off the post, before substitute Aaron Millar shot wide from a half chance at the edge of the box.
