UNDER-20s: Clyde 1-2 Albion Rovers

The Bully Wee’s under-20 side had another narrow defeat on Sunday, in their latest match in the SPFL Development League West.

Albion Rovers visited Broadwood and took a first half lead, but Aaron Millar levelled the scores before half-time. However, an early goal for The Wee Rovers in the second half proved to be decisive, despite late Clyde pressure.

Head coach, Richard Fox spoke to the official website this evening:-

“We went into the match without a recognised centre half, so we had to switch things around a bit. They put us under pressure at the start but I didn’t think there was much in the game. They scored a good individual goal though, but we equalised just before the break thanks to a great pass by Alex Lynn and a good finish by Aaron.

“Unfortunately we then lost an early goal in the second half, which was probably down to a bit of inexperience in the heart of defence. After that, we finished the game really strongly and had a few chances, but we just couldn’t score.

“Overall, it was a big improvement on our last match against Albion, when we lost 6-2. With my youth development hat on, all but two of our team are eligible for next season and they were up against team that is mostly at the age limit. I don’t want the boys to think that losing is acceptable, but on Sunday we lost in the right way.”

The boys’ previous match ended in a heavy defeat, 8-1 to league leaders Greenock Morton, as a depleted Clyde team failed to cope with a very experienced Morton line-up.

In squad news, goalkeeper Mark McMillan has joined Glasgow Perthshire on loan. Richard said: “It will be good for Mark to go out and experience the other side, so to speak. It should assist his development and bring on his game.”

The Development League now takes a break until February, but the young side have various friendlies lined up and will continue to train throughout the period, including alongside the first team.
