UNDER-20s: Clyde 1-4 Queen’s Park
The Bully Wee’s under-20 side suffered a defeat in Development League West at Broadwood yesterday, although the scoreline was harsh on the youngsters.
Matthew Edward scored an early opening goal for Clyde but the visitors took advantage of the limited amount of chances they created, to take a 2-1 lead into the break.
In the second half, despite a decent showing by The Bully Wee, it was a similar story to the opening period and The Spiders got the goals that mattered.
CLYDE: M McMillan, Clark, Martin, Edward, Coleman, Baillie, McPhee, Millar, Trialist, Sweeney, Lynn. SUBS: Trella, McArdle, Shanganya, McClung, E McMillan, McGinty.
Head coach, Richard Fox spoke to the official website this evening:-
“We made a great start, went ahead inside two minutes and carried on from there. Unfortunately we were hit on the break to make it 1-1. I thought we were on top for the rest of the half and it was probably the best that we have played so far to be honest, it was really coming together.
“Just before half-time, we conceded a corner and a really poor individual error has cost us a goal.
“In the second half, again I felt that we were the better team but we’ve lost two really soft goals from set pieces that I felt we were unlucky with in terms of the break of the ball.
“For large chunks of the game I was happy with what we did. An older head or two would probably help to organise things on the pitch but we know that we don’t have that and the players will have to learn from their own mistakes at the moment. As we’ve discussed before, we’ve got a long term plan and this is the best way to go in terms of development.
“I really believe that it is starting to come together though and results are not the most important thing at the moment.”
The youngsters also played in a friendly match on Friday night, against Sporting Futures USA, and came away with a 4-2 win. Further details are available on the Sporting Futures USA website and a superb Clyde third goal by Matthew Edward can be viewed in this video.
Next up in Development League West is an away match at Airdrie, with a date and venue to be confirmed.
