UNDER-20s: Ayr United 5-0 Clyde

The Bully Wee’s under-20 side suffered a defeat in Development League West tonight, as early pacesetters Ayr United continued their excellent form.

The hosts were 2-0 up at half-time, with late goals making the scoreline more convincing.

CLYDE: M McMillan, McPhee, Martin, E McMillan, Clark, McArdle, Lynn, Shanganya, Barr, Sweeney, Coleman. SUBS: Baillie, Andrew, Trialist, McDonald, Trialist, McClung.

Speaking to the official website after the match at Somerset Park, under-20s coach Richard Fox said: “We lost goals that were down to individual errors and that cost us. We were well in the game in the first half and the scores were level after 30 minutes, but a couple of lapses allowed them to go into the break two goals up.

“I thought we started the second half well, but we couldn’t get on the scoresheet and conceding a third goal made it difficult. After we had made three subs, our left back was feeling unwell and struggling and that contributed to us losing two late goals.

“Ayr are a strong team that has started the season very well and they also included few first team players tonight. It’s still a learning curve for our boys and we know it’s a young team, so inconsistency is going to be an issue.

“We’ve had a wee downturn tonight, but we’ll learn from it and I know for certain that the boys will bounce back.”

Next up for the youngsters is a friendly match against local side Cumbernauld Colts, 7.45pm on Friday at Broadwood. Queen of the South are the next league opponents, in around a fortnight’s time.
