Clyde 3-2 Arbroath

Clyde’s 100% home record in Ladbrokes League 2 continued yesterday, as victory over Arbroath moved the club up to second place in the table.

Barry Ferguson made one change to the starting line-up following the win over Cowdenbeath, with Phil Johnston returning to replace Michael Oliver. There was a slot on the bench for new signing Ross Perry, along with a welcome return for Scott Ferguson.

Scott Linton got the match off to a great start with his first goal of the season, cutting inside from the left wing and finding the net from outside the box.

Dylan Easton then tested Arbroath Robbie Mutch from close range, but the visitors soon got back on level terms when Josh Skelly got away from Chris Smith inside the box and tucked the ball away.

Scott McLaughlin came close with a long range shot before Clyde took the lead again, after 24 minutes. Easton’s corner was met by Martin McNiff and the defender’s header beat Mutch for his first goal for the club.

There were more chances at either end; Easton and Higgins for The Bully Wee and Steven Doris for The Red Lichties, but just before half-time Bobby Linn made it 2-2 with a run and accurate low shot.

There were fewer clear-cut chances in the second half, but Peter MacDonald scored a decisive goal with 71 minutes on the clock. The forward latched onto John Gibson’s long goal kick and fired and excellent first time shot into the net.

With time running out, a dampener was put on the afternoon as Easton was forced to leave the field on a stretcher after a clumsy challenge by Omar Wader and the extent of the midfielder’s injury will be evaluated in the coming days.

With three substitutions already made, Clyde finished the match with ten men but the win was secured after Arbroath’s David Gold blasted the ball over the bar in injury time.
