Three Teenagers Join Squad
The club is pleased to announce the addition of three young players to the first team squad.
Robbie Davidson and Michael McGinty, both 17, and Kyle Ferguson, 16, have joined The Bully Wee.
Midfielders Robbie and Kyle previously played together with Blantyre Boys Club and Michael, a winger, joins from Airdrie. The three teenagers will be part of the first team squad, but also eligible to take part with the under-20s.
Clyde manager Barry Ferguson spoke to the official website about the additions:-
“I’ve been watching all of them for a while at youth level and I know the potential that they have.
“The great thing is that they’ll be able to continue with their education at school and then train with us in the evenings. I believe it’s the right environment for them to develop and not just learn from me and the other coaches, but also the boys in the squad.
“It’ll take them a while to adapt to a first team environment but they have the potential to do that. I’m expecting them to be in and around the matchday squads and pushing for a starting place in six months’ time.
“Along with the new under-20s squad that is being put together, we’re starting to get a group of young players at the club that we can develop for the future. I believe that if you’re good enough, you are old enough and there will be opportunities for them to be involved if they deserve it.
“I want to see a bright future for the club and make sure it can produce its own players. We’re moving in the right direction now.”
Barry explained that Kyle, his son, would make his own way at the club:-
“I was a bit reluctant to sign Kyle because of the family connection, but he is in on his own merit and the other coaches feel the same. He’ll be treated no differently to any other player.”
