Barry Delighted With Jersey Camp

Barry Ferguson spoke to the official website this evening, after he, the staff and the squad returned home from Jersey yesterday.

The Clyde boss confirmed that the five-day training camp had been a huge success:-

“I’m delighted with how it went. The boys worked extremely hard and they will get so much benefit from it. Their commitment was excellent and, although it was hard work, I think they enjoyed it as well.

“It was a really tough and packed schedule but no-one moaned about it, they just got on with it. We did a really hard session on Friday, runs both before and after the friendly match on Saturday, another session on Sunday and then a double session to finish on Monday.

“We also got lucky with the weather – we were training in heat, which gave it an extra edge. Overall, we got everything we wanted out of it and everyone took part in every session, so we avoided any injuries or niggles.

“It was great to see some of our fans at the match on Saturday, so from the staff and players I thank them for making a long journey.”

Barry was also pleased to see the new additions to the squad integrating well:-

“All of the new guys are settling in quickly and they all commented on that themselves. We mixed the rooms up and they’ve all been able to spend a lot of time together, on the training pitch but also just living together for a few days and doing things as a group like having a meal.

“It was great from that point of view as well.”

The squad will return to the training pitch on Thursday night, before the first home friendly of the summer against Airdrie at Broadwood on Saturday. Barry concluded:-

“It’s still very early in the schedule but I’m really pleased with where we are so far. The main thing at the moment is maximising our fitness levels and that will be the priority for the first few friendlies.”
