Elgin City 0-2 Clyde (agg 1-5)

Clyde progressed to the Ladbrokes League 1 play-off final today, thanks to a superb two-goal victory at Borough Briggs that sealed a convincing 5-1 aggregate win.

With Ross Millen ruled out due to illness, Barry Ferguson added Steven Brisbane to the side at right back but named an otherwise unchanged team following the first leg.

The Black and Whites suffered an early injury blow when playmaker Dylan Easton was forced to leave the field with a knee problem.

Although the home side were on the front foot in terms of territory and possession for long spells of the first half, they rarely troubled John Gibson as Clyde battled hard to maintain the deadlock.

However, on the stroke of half-time, a neat move led to Steven Ross bursting through on goal but Gibson did very well to block his shot and the ball then squirmed agonisingly wide of the post.

The second half was completely controlled by The Bully Wee though, with early chances created. David Marsh came close to converting from close range following John Gemmell’s knock down, before David Gormley put a header just wide from Scott Linton’s corner.

After 62 minutes, a wonderful goal gave Clyde a crucial three-goal cushion in the tie. After Gormley was fouled, Jordan Kirkpatrick stepped up and found the top corner of the net from 30 yards out.

The rest of the match was seen out comfortably and the icing was put on the cake deep into injury time, as Linton raced into the box and clipped the ball over Mark Hurst (pictured).

Glasgow rivals Queen’s Park will provide the opposition in the final, with the first leg at Broadwood on Tuesday night and the second leg at Hampden on Saturday.
