Higgins Pleased by Team Character

Sean Higgins spoke to the press following Saturday’s Ladbrokes League 2 win over East Stirlingshire at Ochilview.

The forward scored two important goals in the second half as The Bully Wee won 4-2 and he said he was pleased with the battling qualities shown by the team:-

“We started really poorly and put ourselves under a bit of pressure, but there have been a few matches recently where we’ve shown some character. We’ve come back from going a goal down before and we were two down at Annan.

“Even after going down to ten men we finished the game off, so it’s pleasing.”

The win was finally secured thanks to Sean’s last minute volley, but he was quick to praise the assist of his strike partner:-

“At 3-2 it was always going to get a bit edgy, but David Gormley did great in the corner and I don’t know how I managed to get there – I just jogged in slowly I think – and I managed to hit it first time. I think if I’d taken a touch I’d have fallen down!”

The two goals moved Higgins to joint top scorer for the season, alongside Scott Linton, and he revealed that he was enjoying the role he currently had in the team:-

“The gaffer changed the formation a few weeks ago and moved me up front with Gormley and I’ve always felt that that is my best position. I’ll play anywhere to help the team and I’ve played in a few different positions this season, but my preference is up front in a two.

“The more games you play with someone, the more you can get a partnership going. I’ve scored goals in my career and hopefully there will be more to come before the end of the season.

“Once big Gemmell comes back that will put the pressure on us though and there will be competition for a place.”

Sean finished by revealing that he was nursing some groin pain, but he was determined to be ready for tomorrow night’s big match against Annan Athletic at Broadwood:-

“I’m 31 now and getting old! I’ve just got to manage my body as well as I can, we’ve got a game on Tuesday and I want to play. I came here to win the league and that’s still the target; we’re there or thereabouts. It’s a massive game against Annan now.”
